'A Noite Ilustrada' writes about the uproar caused by 'Nega maluca' which dealt with racism, unwanted pregnancy & poverty from a view of Evaldo Ruy, a mulatto and Fernando Lobo, a white man.

9 February 1950 - 'Correio da Manhã' tells everything about the Contest of Sambas & Marches sponsored by Rio de Janeiro's Mayor's Office in 1950. Linda Baptista's rendition of 'Nêga maluca' - written by Evaldo Rey & Fernando Lobo - won the samba contest. It was an statement about racial prejudice that ran unchecked in the country. It said: 'Tava jogando sinuca, uma nêga maluca me apareceu; vinha com um filho no colo e dizia p'ro povo que o filho era meu; Não, senhor, toma que o filho é; não, senhor, guarde o que Deus lhe deu...' which is: 'I was playing pool when a crazy nigger showed up holding a child and telling everyone the child was mine! No, siree, take it, the child is yours; no siree, keep what God gave you!' On top of offending all Black women and women in general, Linda made a fashion statement showing at Teatro João Caetano wearing a golliwog doll fancy-dress which added insult to injury. That was 1950 when Black people didn't have a voice at all, not even a whisper.
due to 'Nêga maluca' having won the contest, golliwog doll costumes were suddenly all the rage at Carnaval 1950.

9 February 1950 - 'Correio da Manhã' interviews Paquito & Romeu Gentil who won the Best March Contest with 'Daqui não saio' (Daqui ninguém me tira). They started working together in 1949, having competed (and lost) 1949's Mayority's Contest with 'Jacarepaguá' - also recorded by Vocalistas Tropicais, which went on to become one of the most popular marches during Carnaval. Paquito & Gentil complain about Vocalistas Tropicais' attitude of not being there at Teatro João Caetano when 'Daqui não saio' was in competition. Were it not for 4 Azes & 1 Coringa prompt rescue in learning the song quickly and stepping on the stage to sing it they would've missed the Award altogether.
Paquito (real name: Francisco da Silva Parrea Jr. born on 9 February 1915) & Romeu Gentil (real name: Romeu Scovino, born on 30 May 1911) wrote also 'Deus há de me ajudar' samba recorded by Carlos Galhardo; 'Ela é falsa' samba with Vocalistas Tropicais; 'Está p'ra mim', a march by Carlos Galhardo; 'Tudo azul', march sung by Zé & Zilda and 'Quem sou eu?' samba with Odete Amaral.
