'Singing in the rain' (Cantando na chuva) premiered in Rio on 25 September 1952, only 2 days before Chico Alves died in an automobile crash in Pindamonhangaba-SP; a few weeks later Gene Kelly was #1 in the charts with the single from the sound-track.
besides Francisco Alves own records going up the charts there were those by Linda Baptista and Dalva de Oliveira who sang about him like 'Chico Viola', 'Prece de um sambista' and 'Meu rouxinol' (Homenagem póstuma).
poor suave Doris Monteiro was buried under the weight of so many Francisco Alves-related records. Even so Miss Monteiro charted for the the 3rd straight time with 'Nunca te direi' written by Jose Maria de Abreu & Jair Amorim b/w 'Sou tão feliz' (Roberto Mario-Mauricio de Lima).
